Terms of Use
These terms cover your use of Ember. By using the app you accept them.
What Ember is
Ember writes interactive fiction with you. Chapters are generated by an AI model in response to the choices you make, which means every chapter is new and none of it has been reviewed by a person before you read it.
The stories, the characters and the places are fiction. Any resemblance to real people is coincidence.
You must be an adult
Ember is rated for adults. You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live, whichever is higher.
What you write
You can write your own opening and your own actions. You keep responsibility for what you write. Do not use Ember to generate sexual content involving minors, content that sexualises real identifiable people, or anything illegal where you live. Inputs that place minors in a sexual context are blocked automatically, and we may block others.
We do not claim ownership of what you write. You give us permission to send it to our model provider for the sole purpose of generating your chapter.
What the app produces
Generated text and images are yours to read, keep and export. They are produced by a model and may be wrong, strange or not to your taste. They are not advice of any kind.
Because the same premise can lead to similar chapters for different readers, we make no claim that your text is unique or exclusive to you, and we cannot guarantee that generated output is free of third-party rights.
Free stories, credits and Ember+
New readers get two stories with three free chapters each. Beyond that, chapters cost credits, or are included in an Ember+ subscription.
Credits are a prepaid entitlement inside the app, not money. They do not expire while your install exists, they have no cash value, and they cannot be transferred or refunded except where the law requires it.
Ember+ renews until you cancel. Cancel in your Apple account settings. Purchases and refunds go through Apple, under Apple's terms.
Prices, credit costs and the monthly illustration allowance may change. Changes do not take credits you already hold.
Your stories are on your device
Ember keeps your stories on your device, not on our servers. That is deliberate, and it has a consequence: if you delete the app, lose the device or clear your browser data, your stories are gone and we cannot restore them. Export anything you want to keep as a PDF.
Fair use of the service
Do not automate requests, circumvent the rate limits, or resell access. Generating a chapter and an illustration costs us real money per request, and we will block abuse.
Availability
Ember depends on a third-party model provider. It can be slow, and it can be unavailable. We provide the app as it is, without a promise that it will always work.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
