Privacy Policy
Ember is built so that your stories stay on your phone. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what leaves your device and what does not.
What we do not collect
No account. No email address, no password, no sign-in. We do not know who you are.
We do not collect your name, contacts, photos, location or device identifiers, and we run no analytics or advertising SDKs.
Where your stories live
Your stories, the choices you made, the chapter text and any illustrations are stored on your own device. On the web they sit in your browser's local storage and IndexedDB; in the app they sit in the app's own storage.
We keep no copy on any server. If you delete a story, or delete the app, it is gone, and we cannot recover it for you.
What is sent out, and why
To write the next chapter, the app sends the text needed to write it to our server and on to OpenRouter, which routes it to the model provider that generates the text or image. That includes the story premise, the running summary, the choices you have made, and anything you typed yourself as a choice or as your own opening.
This is sent only to produce your chapter. We do not store it after the response is returned, and we do not use it to train anything.
OpenRouter and the underlying providers process it under their own terms: openrouter.ai/privacy.
Your own words
If you write your own opening or your own action, that text is checked on our server before it is sent on. The check is automatic, it happens in memory, and the text is not stored.
Technical data
Our server sees your IP address on each request, because it is part of how the internet works. We use it only to count requests per hour so that nobody can run up the bill, and the counters are held in memory and expire. We do not write IP addresses to a database and we do not build profiles.
Our hosting provider, Vercel, may log requests for operational reasons under its own policy.
Purchases
Subscriptions and credit packs are processed by Apple, with RevenueCat handling the receipt on our side. We never see your card details. What we receive is whether a subscription is active.
Children
Ember is for adults and is rated accordingly. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your rights
Because we hold no account and no copy of your stories, there is nothing on our side to export or delete for you. Deleting a story on your device deletes it. If you have a question about any of this, write to us.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
